Beauty, an outstanding personality, and extensive knowledge of things Caymanian and what these Islands have to offer as a destination. These are the makings of the perfect candidate who will represent the country in the 19th Annual Miss Caraïbes Hibiscus Beauty Pageant featuring lovely ladies from 15 Caribbean islands.

Miss Caraïbes Hibiscus Cayman will go through four months of intensive preparation before heading off to the pageant in the French island of St Maarten. “If we are going to compete internationally and expect to win, we cannot sit around and wait until a month before, otherwise it is simply a waste of time and money. Preparation and proper knowledge is the way to go. The pageant world is very fierce and in order to compete, she must know how to play the game,” said Cayman’s franchise holder Mr Dwight McLean.

From Friday, 27 November to Monday, 7 December 2009, the contestants will participate in various promotional activities, attend formal ceremonies and reception dinners, as well as meet with government officials. On pageant night, they will present a speech about their country in cultural wear, and join a swimwear and evening gown competition. The contestants will be judged on various criteria, including poise, appearance, stage presence, demarche, speaking abilities and choice of costumes. “The pageant is all about promoting your island, the Caribbean as a destination, and most of all developing friendships,” Mr McLean said.

The top three contestants will be awarded the Miss Caraïbes Hibiscus 2010 title, first runner-up and second runner-up, respectively. Other awards include Best Cultural Wear, Best Gown, Miss Popularity, Miss Photogenic and Miss Amity, which was won last year by George Town’s own 20 year-old Treveen Stewart.
